My First Student

I started to teach English, when I was 21 years old. My first student was my sister. I was 21 on that time, while my sister was 17. She just finished her high school. She still didn't understand even a piece of grammar. Then I tried to teach her, step by step, everyday.... I started from the daily conversation. I asked her to say in English the thing she did...

After "teaching" for about 2 months, she got some improvements in her English. She started to use English everyday, and made conversations either with me or her friends. Some of her friends were surprised of her development in mastering English. In their curiosity, my sister told them that she 'learned' English from me. Then some of them became my students for free....

Day by day, I got more and more 'free' students. One day the total of students were 20, and I couldn't accommodate them in one 'class' as my house was very small and dirty... As most of the students lived nearby, the village chief then suggested to use the village meeting room. The class moved to the meeting room. I taught twice a week...

Most of the students liked the class, and they told to anybody they met. We then got more and more free students.......
